Dakar, Senegal, September 17 (Infosplusgabon) – A collision between a van and a public transport vehicle on Monday morning has claimed the lives for three and wounded about 20 slightly.

The bodies and the wounded were evacuated in the different hospital centers of the city by firemen.

The accident happened at a crossroad, in the village of Petit Mbao, at about 20 kilometers east of the capital, Dakar, a place known for being dangerous.

According to official statistics, between January and August this year, 11,082 road accidents were listed in Senegal, leaving 18,390 victims, including 430 dead.

About half of the accidents happened in the region of Dakar, or 536, which caused the death of about 50 people.

The deadliest accident happened in early June near the village of Ndialam, in the north of the country, following a collision between a van and a public transport vehicle, leaving 10 dead and about 20 others wounded seriously.

According to the Senegalese national road transport department, every year, more than 500 people are killed in road accidents, including 92% due to the bad behaviors of drivers, particularly excess speeding, the use of telephone while driving and the non-compliance with wearing the seat belts.

To stop the accidents, the government took several measures, including the renewal of the common transport automobile park, the introduction of a new form of driver’s license and the tightening of vehicle control.

In 2011, the Senegalese government established a national road safety plan aiming to reduce accidents by 3% every year, then by 50% from 2020.
