President Mnangagwa announces first cabinet

Harare, Zimbabwe, December 1 (Infosplusgabon) -  Zimbabwe's new president Emmerson Mnangagwa has announced his first cabinet in which he rewards those who played key roles in the resignation of his predecessor Robert Mugabe and brought him to power.

 

Prominent among them are the military and War Veterans, who were given key portfolios in the 22-member cabinet.

 

President Mnangagwa, who was sworn in a week ago and will serve out former President Mugabe's term until delections are held in September next year, also maintained several members of the previous cabinet.

 

There were 6 deputy ministers and 11 ministers of state, 10 of whom are for the Provinces, the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) reported on Thursday night.

 

The appointments take immediate effect, ZBC said.

 

Major-General Sibusiso Moyo, who announced the military takeover of the country 15 November is the new Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade while Air Marshal Perence Shiri, Air Force Commander, was named the Minister of Lands, Agriculture and Rural Resettlement. Chris Mutsvangwa, leader of the War Veterans was named Minister of Information, Media and Broadcasting Services.
