Kigali, Rwanda, March 27 (Infosplusgabon) - Rwanda's Ministry of Health announced on Thursday night that nine more people have tested positive for COVID-19 (coronavirus), bringing total confirmed cases in the country to 50.

Five new cases are travellers who arrived from Dubai, UAE, and were isolated.

Two travellers arrived from USA and the Netherlands and were placed in quarantine while the other cases involve contacts of previous confirmed positive travellers who have also been isolated.

The Ministry of health said that all patients are under treatment in stable condition in an isolated health facility.

The country has about 1,000 suspected cases which are being monitored and quarantined, the health ministry said.

In a bid to curb the spread of COVID-19, Rwandan health officials have urged the public to observe rigorously all enhanced prevention measures announced by the Government, particularly washing hands regularly and maintaining physical distance of at least one metre from other people.

The authorities have announced a countrywide lockdown for 14 days and cautioned residents against visits and unnecessary movements upcountry and abroad.
