Conakry, Guinea, March 27 (Infosplusgabon) – Seven people, including three Guinean soldiers and a Malian national, were arrested and detained for trafficking in arms they stole from the Autonomous battalion of airport troops (BATA), police sources said on Thursday.

Police said that the alleged traffickers were arrested following a series of combined operations carried out by the police and gendarmerie services.

Those arrested, particularly Warrant officer Mamadou Saïdou Diallo, allias Dos, and Malian Samba Ndaw, are the two alleged masterminds of the network.

Mali had come under jihadist attacks in the center and northern regions  where, according to the United-Nations, over the past few years, more than 1,200 people were killed.

Mr Ndaw was arrested at his house, in the suburb of Conakry where several types of weapons were seized, particularly PMAK type rifles, 13 PKMFM rifles, anti-tank rockets called RPG rockets, 11 grenades, a launch-rocket, 7 rifles, 6 ammunition boxes, canons and PMK.

The police said the warrant officer is the one who supplies his client, Ndaw, who in turn sells the materials in his country, Mali.

BATA elements attempted a mutiny which was foiled by loyalist soldiers and during which an officer was shot dead.
