Nouakchott, Mauritania, October 20 (Infosplusgabon) - The Mauritanian government and the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development (AFESD) Friday signed a financing agreement for a total amount of US$163 million to build nearly 400 kilometres of roads linking the centre of the country to localities on the border with Mali and Senegal, an official source said.

The agreements cover the road axis between the regions of Tidijkja-Kiffa-Selibaby.

These comprise the Tidijikja-Goudia (92 kilometres); Goudia-Boumdeid (70 kilometres); Kankossa-Loubouli (95 kilometres); and Loubouli-Ghabou-locality sections of the Selibaby region bordering both Mali (Kayes region) and Senegal (99 kilometres).

According to the minister of economy and industry, Sheikh El Kébir Moulaye, quoted by the Mauritanian Information Agency (MAI), appreciated the "funding will allow an expansion of the Mauritanian road network and a connection with that of Mali, which will have positive effects on the living conditions of border populations".
