After the counting of 52% of ballot papers, the preliminary results give Saied 18.7% of votes as against 15.5% for Karoui.

Unexpected to be on top of the votes, they beat potentially favorite candidates like Islamist Abdelfattah Mourou who comes third with 13.1% of votes, the former National Defence minister, Abdelkrim Zbidi (9.8%) and outgoing Prime Minister Youssef Chahed (7.4%).

The same results were recorded by the associative network Mourakiboun whose estimates gave Saied between 17.6 and 19.2% of votes and Karoui between 14.8 and 16.2% of votes, before Islamist Mourou credited with between 12.2 and 13.2% of votes.
