French national arrested in Kenya for possessing Ivory bangle


Nairobi, Kenya, August 15 (Infosplusgabon) - A French national, Laazibi Amal, who was arrested on Wednesday at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi on charges of possessing ivory, has been fined US$10,000.


According to the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), the transit passenger was charged in court on Thursday. Amal was travelling to Dzouadzi Islands, Mayotte, an Indian Ocean Island, when the airport authorities picked him for possessing ivory, which is banned in Kenya.


The court allowed Amal to access a bank at the airport to pay the fine or spend 12 months in prison, according to the KWS. The passenger was ordered to surrender his passport to the court.
