200,000 new trees will be planted for the 1st National Tree Day in Burkina Faso



Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, July 11 (Infosplusgabon) - Some 200,000 new trees are to be planted across Burkina Faso in connection with the first edition of its National Tree Day (NTD) scheduled to be held on August 3, 2019 in Tenkodogo, capital of the Central East region, official sources said  on Wednesday.


The NTD will be held under the theme "Tree and Education for a Green Economy". It will include planting 65,000 trees at fully secure sites throughout Burkina Faso.

The organization of the NTD aims to mobilize all socio-professional strata to restore the country's forests and degraded lands, the government said at the end of a meeting of the council of ministers.

The ceremony was under the high patronage of President Roch Marc Christian Kaboré.
