Brazzaville, Congo, February 21 (Infosplusgabon) -  The African Development Bank (AfDB) is considering support for Congo’s agriculture and transport sectors in the framework of this year’s national development programme, the Bank’s governor for Africa, Ousmane Doure, said on Wednesday.

"For 2018, our ambition is to double the size of our portfolio. Necessarily, there will be a project on the development of channels of agricultural value as they are platforms enabling the creation of  jobs for youths," he said at the end of a working session with Congolese Minister of Planning and Statistics, Olga Ingrid Ebouka-Babakas.

‘We are looking for ways and means with the minister to see how to use Congo’s agricultural potential to create transformation zones. We were told that the government has begun working on the transformation of some basic products such as cassava, banana and cocoa," said the AfDB official.

In addition, the Bank's Deputy Governor, Celestin Monga, has said: "We permanently accompany the negotiations between Congo and the International Monetary Fund (IMF). We know that the talks between the two parties are moving forward in a positive way."

The visit of the AfDB delegation to Congo follows a request by the Congolese government to the financial institution for support in implementing macroeconomic and financial reforms and its socioeconomic development project.
